Topic: Presence and Power Passage: 1 Corinthians 12:1–11, Ephesians 2:10

How the Spirit works:

Moving people out of seats into service, from being watchers to workers.

Two Kinds of Serving:

  Duty Serving   (have to)

  Delight Serving   (get to)

Big Idea

The Holy Spirit distributes gifts to each person who follows Jesus for the common good.

Spiritual Gifts – A Definition

Spiritual gifts are abilities, bestowed by God's grace and power, which fit people for service within God’s mission.

The gifts are given not for a ‘better for me’ reality but a ‘better for others’ reality.

Each person is given something to do that shows who God is: Everyone gets in on it, everyone benefits. All kinds of things are handed out by the Spirit, and to all kinds of people! The variety is wonderful.     –Eugene Peterson
