Topic: Light, Life & Love: A Journey through the Gospel of John Passage: Matthew 26:32–33, Matthew 26:34–35, John 21:1–19, 2 Corinthians 5:19, 1 Peter 4:8, Psalm 130:1–8

Peter

  1. The most referenced person in the New Testament, besides Jesus.
  2. 1st disciple called to follow Jesus.
  3. A man of great courage

Notice Peter’s Response

1.Jumps out of the boat & swims ahead to Jesus.

2.Runs to get the fish.

What would it take for you to embrace the forgiveness offered to you in Christ?

Peter’s sin runs deep

- Betrayal  -  failed to evangelize

-Lied  -  silent in the face of

-Cursed       injustice

- Idolatry

It is worth noticing what Jesus did not say. He did not contemn Peter for his denials. He did not tell him that he was going to have to earn his way back into discipleship.

He did not speak to Peter hurtfully or resentfully at all, the way most people would if they had been treated as badly by someone as Peter had treated Jesus.   -Phil Ryken
